Maradona Suspected Murdered, Argentine Court Immediately Trial Team of Doctors

Eight people who treated Diego Maradona, were immediately tried in an Argentine court for murder. The decision was published on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, following an investigation into the football legend's death from a heart attack in November 2020. In the 236-page document, the judge questioned the negligence of each defendant that caused harm to the patient. Eight people will go on trial including the doctors, nurses and psychologists who treated Maradona at the time of his death. They were accused of simple murder, a serious charge that meant taking another person's life with intent. A medical board appointed to investigate Maradona's death concluded in 2021 that Maradona's medical team acted in an inappropriate, inappropriate and reckless manner. Maradona is considered one of the greatest football players in history. For years he struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. Mario Baudry, a lawyer for one of Maradona's sons, said that Maradona was in a helpless situation at the time of his death. Maradona died on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60. "Once I saw the cause, I said it was murder. I fought for a long time and here we are, with this stage finished," he said. Argentine prosecutors launched an investigation shortly after Maradona's death in a house near Buenos Aires. Prosecutors also ordered a search of his personal doctor's property and investigate other people involved in his treatment. The defendants named in the verdict are neurosurgeon and personal doctor Maradona, Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, psychologist Carlos Diaz, nurses Gisella Madrid and Ricardo Almiron, their boss Mariano Perroni, and doctors Pedro Di Spagna and Nancy Forlini. The defendants have denied responsibility for Maradona's death. The judge said that lawyers for some of the defendants asked for the cases to be dismissed. Vadim Mischanchuk, a lawyer for Cosachov, said he would appeal the decision. He added that the field of psychiatric treatment had nothing to do with the cause of Maradona's death. The crime of simple murder in Argentina usually carries a sentence of 8 to 25 years in prison, according to the country's penal code. There is no definite date yet when the trial will be held.
